Libraries are Information Factories

Why do libraries and archives lend themselves so well to the basic tenets of the visual workplace? Because libraries and archives are information factories. Through various production and service points, information is acquired, packaged, shared, and delivered to our customers. As librarians, we are masters of organization. We are trained to adhere to all sorts of standards (call numbers, subject headings, marc records, name authorities, etc.) We are also constantly training workers - library staff, student workers, and volunteers. By thinking visually, libraries and archives can streamline communication, boost performance, increase accuracy, and enhance customer satisfaction.
